Afghanistan may release 600 captured Talibans in exchange of peace talks.

Afghan authorities said on Thursday that they will release 600 Taliban kept as prisoners if the Taliban come to talk. A day after, they refused to release the imprisoned ones.
Non concurrence over  around 600 imprisoned Talibans from a total number of 5,000 has averted the launch of US-Brokered peace talks that aimed at the conclusion of around 19 years of war since the group was banished.
The Afghan Government said that it doesn't want to free some prisoners for security reasons and it's Western associates.

Javed Faisal, National Security Council's point person said that,"They have given us another list, the release process will continue but direct talks must also start instantaneously."

The Taliban couldn't be contacted for comment it wasn't clear if they are willing to start the talks on the release of the imprisoned Taliban.

United States of America and the Taliban signed an agreement in February on the recession of American forces in exchange for Taliban security guarantees.

As a part of the agreement, the Taliban agreed to start talks with the American Government. But a senior government official stated that there was still no agreement on starting the talks. "The government will start the process of release in the coming few days and will complete the release whether the Taliban agree or not", He stated.

A diplomatic source said that US special ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who has conducted the negotiations with the Taliban, has been pressing the Taliban leaders to agree on the prisoner issue. There were hopes that the goal would be achieved.
"Momentum is such that it would be possible for any side to back out", the source stated."
